Dog breeds similar to Labrador

Labradors are among the five most popular breeds in the world and every year their popularity is only growing. They are known for their kindness and sweet temper.
Excellent learning ability of the breed in combination with an unconditional trusting attitude to humans and genetically incorporated hunting qualities are successfully used for the benefit of people: these are search and rescue works, and canistherapy (treatment of children suffering from autism, cerebral palsy by dogs), and accompanying blind people as dogs. guide dogs. It is difficult to imagine a more industrious dog that would bring so much benefit to man.

The Labrador Retriever is a universal breed, but there are related breeds, mostly also belonging to the group of retrievers and possessing similar qualities to the Labrador. Each of these breeds is unique in its own way. These are golden retrievers, straight-haired (flat), chesapeake, retrievers, curly-haired (curly), novoshkatskie (toller). Do not forget about the setters and Newfoundland, whose blood flows in Labradors, as well as the recently discovered Labradudl breed – a cross between a Labrador and a poodle, whose popularity is rapidly growing due to the unique combination of the excellent qualities of both breeds and almost 100% hypoallergenic.
Golden Retriever (Golden) Goldens are the closest relatives of Labradors and people who are not very versed in rocks, they are often confused, although there are differences, and they are significant. They are lighter in the backbone of the dog, less squat and strong than Labradors, with less weight. Their coat is softer and longer, goes into a light curl. Only different versions of fawn and golden colors are allowed, when, like among Labradors, black and brown colors are acceptable.
By character, they also differ. If Labradors are immediate village lodges, then golden retrievers are deadpan intellectuals. The reaction stick thrown into the river will be different: the Labrador will be at the point where the stick fell before it landed, and Golden, looking into the distance, thinks about the speed of its flight, the resistance of the wind and the direction of water flow in the river, and then deigns to run after her. In the hunt, Labradors are more versatile dogs: they can bring a duck and a hare. Golden retrievers are mainly used only for duck hunting.
Goldens, like Labradors, have a so-called. “Soft mouth”. Among dog handlers and breeders, a test for an egg is known, when a dog is given to carry a raw egg in its mouth and it so gently holds it with its teeth and brings it to the right place that it does not crush, but does not fall. Chesapeake Bay Of all the retrievers, they are the only American-born: from Verginia and Maryland, the coast
Chesapeake Bay. Due to the short, thick and coarse wool, high-set ears, they are better than labradors, adapted to work in cold water and to feed heavy game. Chesapeks are hard workers, but rather stubborn and capricious, so training should be given more attention.
This breed is not inclined to show aggression towards other dogs, however, it can still stand up for itself if necessary. Chesapeake Bay retrievers practically do not start “random” people: mostly, their owners are professional hunters. In Russia, the breed is represented by literally single individuals. Curly Coated (Curley) The oldest of all retrievers – Curly Coated – a cross between a Newfoundland and an Irish Water Spaniel. His relatives are also setters, poodles and, of course, ladbadors.
This breed is hardier and larger than a Labrador Retriever. Curly is more restrained in expressing his feelings and is much less contactable. The only of the retrievers, showing protective qualities, but at the same time, like all retrievers, excellent hunters. Their wool is waterproof and is a solid mass of hard curls of black or brown color. Hunters prefer to buy Curley with a brown color, as less visible on the coastline of rivers and lakes.
Labrodull
This is a new breed that has not yet been recognized by official canine organizations, carrying the genes of a Labrador, a Poodle, an Irish Water Spaniel, a Curly Coated Retriever, an American and a Cocker Spaniel (or only a Labrador and a Poodle). IMPORTANT! Absolute equilibrium of the nervous system.
